Chelsea defender Luiz turned down Barcelona

Highly versatile Chelsea defender David Luiz has confirmed that there was a 'formal offer' made by Barcelona this summer but he opted to stay at Stamford Bridge.

  • The Brazil international was rumored to be in Barcelona's wishlist this summer but the center half revealed that the Catalans did make an offer. The 26 year old added how Barcelona's Brazilian duo of Dani Alves and Neymar were sent to convince him into joining them.



    Quoted in The Sun, he said: "There was a formal offer from Barcelona but I decided to stay at Chelsea.



    "Dani Alves and Neymar were sent to try to convince me to sign, but I was clear with them I was staying.



    "It was not Chelsea's decision, it was mine."



    Barcelona have been in search of a new defender this summer having been linked with the likes of Thiago Silva, David Luiz and Daniel Agger.
