Manuel Pellegrini has told striker Edin Dzeko that he remains an important member of Manchester City's first team squad. The forward had been linked with a transfer to Inter Milan but it appears he will be staying at the Etihad Stadium in January.
Inter Milan reportedly made an enquiry for Dzeko but that has been promptly rejected by the Citizens. Dzeko has found game time scarce this season, partially due to the impressive form of Sergio Aguero and also new signing Alvaro Negredo has continued to push the forward out of the first team.
Pellegrini confirmed that Dzeko is not for sale: "I put my trust in him before the season and I have just as much trust in him now. It is very important for this club to have a good squad because we have a lot of games to play from now until April and, if we want to win trophies, we need important players.
"Maybe at the moment he is not playing as much as he would like, but he remains an important part of the squad."
