Wayne Rooney to pen new Man Utd contract?

25 January 2014 - 07:41

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is on the verge of signing a new contract at Old Trafford worth a reported £300,000 per week. The England international has previously stalled on previous discussions but now looks set to rebuff the overtures of Chelsea and stay at David Moyes' side.

  • Chelsea planning shock move for Man City winger?
  • Arsenal handed injury boost on defender ahead of Bournemouth clash

  • Many had speculated that Rooney was in fact looking for a move south to join Chelsea during the summer, but instead the England international now looks poised to sign a fresh deal at the club.

News of Rooney's much needed contract signing will be a welcome boost for unhappy Manchester United supporters, who will be delighted with Rooney's contract alongside the projected signing of Juan Mata from Chelsea.

The deal will make Rooney the most highly paid soccer player in the Premier League and means that the forward will be extending his stay at Man Utd for a further four years.

Chelsea are now believed to be ready to turn their attention to another striker in the summer transfer window, and Radamel Falcao is believed to be their preferred option. Jose Mourinho has been given a reported £40 million budget to sign a new striker in the summer.
