Manchester United and Arsenal have come to terms on a deal that will see club captain Thomas Vermaelen complete a transfer switch from the Emirates Stadium to Old Trafford. Vermaelen has struggled for regular first team action in recent seasons.
The Belgium international has seemingly decided to make a transfer elsewhere after Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger agreed to sell the centre back.
Whilst most Arsenal fans would prefer that their club captain would not make a move to bitter rivals Man Utd; most will forgive Vermaelen after his fall from grace since the decision of manager Arsene Wenger to play Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny as first choice defenders.
The Belgian is currently entering the final 12 months of his contract at the Gunners and will open talks with Louis Van Gaal as soon as the World Cup has finished.
