Wenger chooses Debuchy to replace Sagna

02 July 2014 - 09:29

Mathieu Debuchy seems almost certain to leave Newcastle this summer as Arsenal are rumoured to have met the asking price of 12 million for the 28 year old.

  • Sagna's departure from Arsenal has left a hole in the team that must be resolved sooner rather than later and Debuchy seems to be the answer. Many newspapers are reporting that the deal will be completed upon France's return from the World Cup, which could be as soon as Friday as they have been matched up against a very strong German side.

It would be a surprise to see Arsenal going in straight away with the asking price as they like a bargain as much as Newcastle do, shown last year with the Yohan Cabaye saga. However with a departure as high profile as Sagna, Arsene Wenger must have realised that there can't be any messing about here and the deal needs to be done as quickly as possible.

The news comes as Newcastle announced the signing of Siem De Jong late last night, which although it is a terrific signing for the Magpies, it seems as if it's a way of softening the blow if Debuchy is to leave the club.

If the money gets reinvested into the squad this would be a great move for both sets of fans, as Debuchy's attacking mindset would fit straight into the Arsenal side, however Mike Ashley has a habit of keeping the money which could put Newcastle in danger of a disappointing season.
