Chelsea launch bid for Filipe Luis

Atletico defender to Chelsea?

Chelsea launch bid for Filipe Luis

05 July 2014 - 14:01

Chelsea have reportedly launched a €15 million bid for Brazilian left back Filipe Luis.

  • Fabrizio Romano updates on Nicolas Jackson's future at Chelsea
  • Man Utd serious about signing Rafael Leao
  • After Ashley Cole announced his departure from Chelsea and Ryan Bertrand also having joined Aston Villa on loan, Jose Mourinho has been searching for a quality defender all over Europe. Atletico Madrid has made it clear that Chelsea will have to meet Luis' release clause which is €24 million. It is being rumoured that Luis might have to pay Atletico himself for the transfer.

Despite an impressive season with Atletico with Los Colchoneros reaching the final of the Champions League and winning the La Liga title, the Brazilian international could not make it to the final 23-member squad in the World Cup and he feels that a move to Chelsea will bolster his chances of getting an important role in the national team.

He made 49 appearances for the Madrid side last season.

Chelsea is also looking at another Atletico defender Joao Miranda.
