Chelsea and Manchester United are both set to battle each other to secure the signing of Cameroon international midfielder Alex Song. Barcelona have decided that the player is surplus to requirements ahead of the new campaign.

  • Arsenal linked with new shotstopper as backup to Raya
  • Juventus and Roma to battle for 20yo Arsenal star

  • Newly appointed manager Luis Enrique has been busy reshuffling his squad ahead of the upcoming season, with the likes of Luis Suarez already brought in and Alexis Sanchez heading for the Nou Camp exit door. The next player to depart Barca is Alex Song, with the former Gunners midfielder valued at approximately 15.8 million Euros.

The 26-year-old has been disappointing since making a move to Spain and has also admitted that he would like a return to England in the near future.

Chelsea and United are both hoping to sign a new defensive midfielder in time for the start of the new season and Alex Song appears to be an option for both.

Jose Mourinho has already had club representatives make their first enquiry regarding Song's availability and new Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal has already been busy securing the signings of Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera, but is still looking to bring in at least two new faces and one of those will be defensive midfield cover and a centre back.
