Liverpool launch bid for Lavezzi

Brendan Rodgers keen on bringing Lavezzi to Anfield

Liverpool launch bid for Lavezzi

06 August 2014 - 16:50

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has submitted an £18m bid for Paris Saint-Germain forward Ezequiel Lavezzi, according to Daily Star.

  • Mikel Arteta insists 27yo star won't be leaving Arsenal
  • Omari Hutchinson wants to continue at Ipswich Town

  • The Reds have been looking for a striker to replace Uruguayan frontman Luis Suarez, who was sold to Barcelona for £75 million last month, and the English manager feels Lavezzi would be the perfect fit for the Anfield outfit.

The Argentine international joined the French Club in 2012, and has since then made 90 appearances across all formats for the Parisians scoring on 23 occasions and assisting in 18 others.

The Ligue 1 champions will also be eager to let go of the 29-year-old in order to fund the transfer of Angel Di Maria, whom they are keen to bring in from Real Madrid. And with Edinson Cavani and Zlatan Ibrahimovic already forming a formidable attack for PSG, Lavezzi could find himself struggling for first team opportunities.

Liverpool though face a tough competition from Italian champions Juventus who are also aiming to bring the former Napoli player back to Italy.
