The Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal is concerned about the club's defensive setup following injuries to the likes of Jonny Evans, Chris Smalling, Luke Shaw and Phil Jones in recent times.

According to The Express, German international Mats Hummels recently rebuffed any possibility of a switch to Old Trafford, and this could tempt the Mancunian giants into making a move for fellow team-mate Subotic.

Aston Villa defender Ron Vlaar has also been associated with a winter move to the Red Devils.
