Arsenal are reportedly closing in on a deal for Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho ahead of a potential move to the Emirates in January.
The highly-rated Portuguese international had been on the radar of the Gunners over the summer, but the North London outfit failed to finalize a deal with Sporting for the player's signature.
However, Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is now keen on signing the 22-year-old at all costs, following the dismal performance of the likes of Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini in the holding midfield role since the start of the campaign.
Arsenal are currently seventh in the Premier League standings.
