James McCarthy has asked Everton to allow him leave the club during the upcoming transfer window.
The Republic of Ireland international joined the Toffees from Wigan Athletic in 2013, and has since then been a key member of the first-team setup.
However, he is discontent with the lack of a new contract given what he has done for the club since his arrival.
According to Goal, the arrival of Tom Cleverley from Manchester United has angered McCarthy, and he is now keen on a move away from the Merseyside.
