Newcastle United are expected to hijack Aston Villa's bid to sign Tottenham Hotspur winger Andros Townsend, The Sun reports.
The England international has stated his desire to remain at White Hart Lane beyond the summer, but manager Mauricio Pochettino may still look to offload the talented winger as he seeks to bring in new recruits for the upcoming campaign.
Villa were believed to be in pole position to snatch Townsend's services, but The Sun reports that the Magpies may provide a transfer tussle for the out-of-favour winger.
Townsend made just 17 league appearances for Spurs last season.
