Everton up to fifth place

Everton up to fifth place

01 January 2008 - 17:52

Goals from Andy Johnson and James McFadden helped Everton to an impressive 2-0 victory over Middlesbrough at the Riverside. Everton have now moved up to fifth in the Premiership. It was Yakubu's first visit back to the Riverside since joining Everton.

  • Chelsea ready to pay €75m for Eduardo Camavinga
  • Chelsea planning move for Strasbourg striker Joaquin Panichelli

  • The game was lacking in quality throughout - but it was The Toffees who claimed the win with their superior finishing.

Everton, without midfielders Mikel Arteta and Tim Cahill, lacked their creativity of late but still carved out a victory with another disciplined away display.

Boro looked the better side for long spells and Tuncay Sanli had a shot cleared off the line before Johnson put Everton ahead with a fizzing low shot in the 67th minute and McFadden doubled the lead five minutes later after a one-two with Johnson.
