Southampton have failed in their pursuit to sign former defender Calum Chambers on a season-long loan from Arsenal.
Chambers joined the Gunners from the Saints for £16m last summer, and was a main part of the club's setup during the first half of last season.
However, with the emergence of Hector Bellerin at right-back, and Chambers' appearances were limited at the turn of the year.
It is now understood that Saints boss Ronald Koeman had made an attempt to sign the England international on loan, but the offer was swiftly rejected by the Gunners with Arsene Wenger wanting the player to act as cover for the first-team.
