Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has hinted that the club may give up on their pursuit of Everton defender John Stones.
The Blues have had two bids of around £20m and £26m knocked back for Stones by the Merseyside outfit.
Mourinho has now insisted that the club could look elsewhere to strengthen their back line ahead of the new season.
He added that they are forced to move for a new centre-back this summer as they are over-reliant on their senior pairing of Gary Cahill and John Terry to do the job.
"Five is not enough. That's obvious," Mourinho told ESPN. "We cannot go to the Premier League with five defenders. That's our weakness. The quality is good, but the numbers are not enough."
