Walcott grabs Arsenal draw

Walcott grabs Arsenal draw

10 January 2008 - 00:57

Arsenal grabbed a late draw thanks to Theo Walcott against Tottenham in the Carling Cup at the Emirates. Arsenal are still undefeated by Tottenham in over 8 years, but the Gunners may have thought their record was to be broken as Jermaine Jenas put Spurs in front early on.

  • Arsenal to swap Gabriel Jesus for Inter Milan star?
  • Arsenal leading race to sign Belgian midfielder

  • Tottenham took the lead when Jermaine Jenas calmly slotted home eight minutes before half-time, after being played in by Robbie Keane.

But Spurs, looking for their first win in 21 matches against their north London rival old foes, couldn't score the second goal their neat possession football deserved and Arsenal levelled on the counter-attack through Theo Walcott.

Spurs had a chance to grab a winner with five minutes to play, but substitute Jermain Defoe missed from close range shortly after being sent on.

Spurs captain Ledley King, one of several young English players who would have impressed watching England manager Fabio Capello, said: "I thought we deserved to win the game.

"We knew they would come back at us, they always seem to come back and we are disappointed we didn't get the win.

"It's half the job done at the moment. It will be a tough game (in the second leg) but we're ready for it."
