Swans axe Monk

Swansea City sack Garry Monk

10 December 2015 - 11:54

Swansea City have parted ways with manager Garry Monk with immediate effect.

  • Fabrizio Romano updates on Nicolas Jackson's future at Chelsea
  • Man Utd serious about signing Rafael Leao

  • It had been recently speculated that the 36-year-old could be relieved from his duties following a dismal run that saw the Swans win just one league game in their last 11 outings.

Chairman Huw Jenkins has now confirmed that Monk has been sacked from the head coach role having seen the club suffer a serious dip in form in recent months.

"The decision has been made very reluctantly and with a heavy heart. To find ourselves in our current situation from where we were in the first week of September, and considering the drop of performance levels and run of results over the last three months, it has brought us to this unfortunate decision today," he told the club's official website.

Former manager Brendan Rodgers is one among the leading candidates to take over the Swans job.
