Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri has signed a new four year contract to keep him at the club till June 2020.
The Italian, 64, replaced Nigel Pearson last Summer and led the Foxes to a remarkable Premier League title, which in fact was the first top flight trophy in the club's history. Ranieri follows Jamie Vardy, Wes Morgan and goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel in committing his future to Leicester who begin their title defence this Saturday afternoon with an away game to newly promoted Hull City.
The club in a statement on Ranieri's new contract said ' Leicester City Football Club are delighted to announce that it's first team manager, Claudio Ranieri, has signed a new contract with the Premier League Champions. The statement went on further to say ' Claudio's qualities,both as a man and a coach have been very clear since the moment he arrived - qualities that helped Leicester to progress in every level.
Bookmaker had him as one of the favourites to be sacked after his appointment but the Italian somewhat got the best out of his players who were a massive 5000-1 to win the Premier League. The Foxes just lost 3 games all season in the Premier League last season and top the table 10 points ahead of their nearest rivals. The club will be top seeds in next months Champions League draw.
Ranieri commenting on his new contract said ' From the moment I talked to the owners about their vision for Leicester City , I knew it was something I wanted to be part of for a very long time'. Ranieri went on further to say ' The energy that exists in this club- from the owners to the staff, to the players and supporters- is something special. I am very happy and proud that I will be part of it for years to come'.
