Chelsea eye Stefan de Vrij deal

Chelsea turn to Stefan de Vrij

28 August 2016 - 06:53

Chelsea have switched their focus to Lazio's Stefan de Vrij after they failed in their attempts to land prior targets. Blues boss Antonio Conte wants to add a new centre-back to his ranks before the transfer deadline.

  • Chelsea join Liverpool & Man Utd in race to sign 26yo
  • Barcelona identify Arsenal midfielder as key transfer target

  • The West London giants were initially in the running to sign Napoli star Kalidou Koulibaly only to see the Serie A side place a hefty £57m price tag on his services.

The Blues therein followed to lodge a £35m offer for AC Milan centre-half Alessio Romagnoli, but it was to no avail as the Rossoneri ruled out his sale.

According to SportItalia, Conte's side have turned their eyes to Stefan di Vrij as they looks to solve their defensive void.

The Netherlands international is open to joining a top European club this summer, and the Blues would have to part with an initial £20m fee to get hold of his signature.

De Vrij was previously a target for Manchester United in the January transfer window. He missed the whole of last season after he was ruled out with a serious knee injury.
