Louis van Gaal blocked Edinson Cavanis Man Utd transfer

Van Gaal refused to sign Cavani

Louis van Gaal blocked Edinson Cavani's Man Utd transfer

Former Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal apparenlty snubbed the chance to bring Edinson Cavani to Old Trafford. The Uruguay international has fluffed his lines all too often over the past year.

  • Omari Hutchinson wants to continue at Ipswich Town

  • Manchester Evening News reporter Samuel Luckhurst has revealed that United's hierarchy were looking into a deal for the Paris Saint-Germain marksman Cavani, only to see Van Gaal blocked the proposed deal for the player.

The Dutchman had recruited the likes of Angel Di Maria, Memphis Depay and Ander Herrera in his debut season at United, but he was reluctant to splash the cash on the former Napoli man.

For once it seems Van Gaal made the right decision with Cavani missing chance after chance to finish the game off against Arsenal (Champions League), which eventually ended in 1-1 draw at Parc des Princes.

The 29-year-old has earned his preferred centre-forward position following Zlatan Ibrahimovic's departure over the summer, but his inconsistency may well cost him his place in the future.

Cavani redeemed himself on Friday night as he scored four goals in a 6-0 rout of Caen in Ligue 1.
