Manchester United manager is looking to sign Isco from Real Madrid as a replacement for Wayne Rooney, according to reports in Spain,

  • Arsenal linked with new shotstopper as backup to Raya

  • Spanish sports newspaper AS is reporting that Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is keen to sign Real Madrid star Isco, and they believe that the Portuguese views the midfielder as a possible replacement for Wayne Rooney.

Rooney has been dropped from the Red Devils’ starting line up for their last three games following some below par displays this season. The 30-year-old England captain has come in for a lot of criticism in recent months, with many fans believing that the once great striker is now beyond his best.

For his part, Rooney now thinks that his best position is in central midfield, but Mourinho is reluctant to play him there, instead using the former Everton man as a number 10 behind Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Isco is a versatile midfielder whose best position is as a number 10. The Spain international has found first team game time hard to come by since Zinedine Zidane took the reins at the Bernabeu in January this year, and the player has admitted that he may have to seek a move away from Los Blancos is his is not afforded more starting opportunities.

The 24-year-old signed for Madrid from Malaga for around €30 million in the summer of 2014.
