Liverpool are set to continue their trend of recruiting players from the South Coast with Jose Fonte being the latest on their radar. The Southampton defender could join former Saints Nathaniel Clyne, Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren and Sadio Mane at Anfield this month.

Fonte, 33, has already handed a transfer request to the club's hierarchy, and it is only a matter of time before he decides his next challenge.

The likes of Everton and Manchester United have been credited with interested with Fonte in recent weeks, and according to The Mirror, Liverpool are the latest to express interest in the centre-half.

Jurgen Klopp's side have had a good association with the Saints over the years, and it is understood they could have the edge over their league rivals for the player.

Fonte could leave St.Mary's for a fee of around &pound6.5m this month after he was denied a fresh contract at the club.
