Chelsea are keen to bolster their defence

Chelsea To Spend Big On Defender?

01 March 2017 - 12:46

Chelsea have joined the race for a Champions League defender, as they look to strengthen their squad in the summer, and Antonio Conte may be set to spend big to bring their man to Stamford Bridge.

  • Man Utd midfielder could move to Spain, Italy or France
  • Kai Havertz sends message to Spurs after United win

  • Kalidou Koulibaly is contracted to Napoli until 2021, however if the Italian club fail to qualify for next season's Champions League, he may be willing to look for a club that can offer him that, according to Goal. Napoli currently sit in the final Champions League position in Serie A, but the competition for that place is heating up as we approach the end of the season.

Chelsea had a bid for the Senegal international turned down last summer, but Antonio Conte has remained a fan, and this development will be sure to maintain his interest. With John Terry out of contract and Kurt Zouma struggling to re-find form after his bad injury, Koulibaly could be just what the Blues need to reinforce their back line.

Chelsea will face opposition though in the race for Koulibaly's signature, with Italian teams Atalanta, Lazio, Inter Milan and AC Milan all apparently interested.
