Steve McClaren could be back in the Premier League next season

Former England manager Steve McClaren has been out of football since being sacked by Derby County, but he could be set for a return, with a club that is currently fighting for a place in next season's Premier League.

  • Chelsea midfielder looking forward to London derby vs Spurs
  • Arsenal in the front row to sign Dutch striker

  • Huddersfield Town have been without a director of football since the man who formerly held that position, Stuart Webber, moved to Norwich City. McClaren emerged as a shock candidate for the role, with the speculation strengthening when he was spotted at the club's Championship play off semi final tie against Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday.

Despite having his struggles as a manager, McClaren is highly rated as a coach, and could help to further improve a Huddersfield team that has flourished under manager David Wagner.

The proposed appointment is said to be regardless of whether The Terriers are in the Premier League or Championship next season, but after a 0-0 draw in the first leg of the semi final, promotion is still very much achievable.

With the first legs of both play off semi finals both finishing in draws, we are no closer to seeing who will lift the trophy and be promoted to the Premier League on May 29.
