David Moyes has confirmed that he has resigned from his role as manager of Sunderland. The Black Cats finished bottom of the Premier League and were relegated from the top flight after a ten year stay.
This news will not come as a shock to many after Moyes was highly criticised by the Sunderland fans for his business in the transfer market and performances on the pitch. Sunderland won just six games during the thirty eight game season, registering just twenty four points.
David Moyes was appointed as manager in July, his first Premier League job since his highly publicised spell in charge at Old Trafford as Manchester United manager.
Upon leaving the club, Moyes said "I wish the players and my successor well in their efforts towards promotion back to the Premier League." The club will now begin looking for a new manager who they hope will be able to guide them back to the top flight of English football.
It is expected to be a difficult task for the North East side, who look set to lose key players such as Jermaine Defoe and Jordan Pickford. Sunderland will have to find a balance between building a strong team and also monitoring their sensitive financial position.
