Capello unsure on captain

Capello unsure on captain

05 February 2008 - 13:54

Fabio Capello has admitted that despite naming Steven Gerrard captain for the game with Switzerland, he has not named the Liverpool midfielder as his permanent captain. John Terry is still keen to hang on to his captaincy.

  • Mikel Arteta insists 27yo star won't be leaving Arsenal
  • Omari Hutchinson wants to continue at Ipswich Town

  • Capello hinted: "He's not going to be our permanent captain - I'm not going to name the permanent captain before the Andorra match.

"I will tell the team to my players before we leave the hotel to go to the match tomorrow."

On the leaving out of Beckham, Capello muttered: "I respect him greatly for all things we did together at Real Madrid.

"But at the moment the most important thing is talking about the players who will play tomorrow - not the ones who are not here."
