Nacho Monreal eyeing Arsenal exit?

29 May 2017 - 05:32

Arsenal full-back Nacho Monreal could push for a surprise exit this summer, should Arsene Wenger fail to negotiate a fresh contract at the Emirates.

  • Chelsea ready to sell four home-grown players
  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts

  • The long-standing manager is due to hold negotiations with the club's hierarchy on Tuesday, and any roadblocks could end his association with the north London outfit.

Spanish publication MARCA claims that Monreal is a target for La Liga side Athletic Bilbao, who have failed with multiple attempts to lure the Spaniard in recent seasons.

Bilbao trust their policy of signing players only from the Basque country, and Monreal falls on their list after having been born in the city of Pamplona.

Monreal had been deployed in a central defensive three during the final games of the season, and the Gunners will be desperate to keep hold of his signature irrespective of the arrival of Schalke's Sead Kolasinac.

The Spain international joined the FA Cup holders from Malaga for an £8.5m fee back in January 2013 - initially as a backup for the injury-plagued Kieran Gibbs.
