Real Madrid conquer Europe again

Real Madrid beat Juventus 4-1 in the Champions League final in Cardiff

Real Madrid conquer Europe again

03 June 2017 - 21:41

Real Madrid overcame Juventus in front of a packed Cardiff crowd to become holders of the UEFA Champions League for a record 12th time. Cristiano Ronaldo once again proved his doubters wrong to lead the Spanish giants to yet another piece of silverware.

  • Arsenal defender misses training ahead of Man Utd game

  • The Portuguese talisman gave the La Liga side the lead with twenty minutes on the clock when he accurately finished from sixteen yards. Just seven minutes later, a great sequence of build up play by Juventus was finished off by a sensational overhead kick by Mario Mandzukic, putting the Serie A champions back on level terms.

That is how the score remained until just after the hour mark, when Casemiro saw his effort deflected past Gianluigi Buffon to restore Real Madrid's lead. That man Cristiano Ronaldo was on the scoresheet again just three minutes later, when he finished off Luka Modric's cross from close range to score his second.

Juventus' task was made even more difficult with six minutes remaining, when Juan Cuadrado was shown a second yellow card, leaving his team with a one man and two goal deficit. Marco Asensio piled on the misery for Juventus, when he scored Real's fourth goal of the night in stoppage time.

Juventus have now lost five Champions League finals since they last tasted success, a record many thought that they would end. In stark contrast, Zinedine Zidane's success at Real Madrid continues, now having back-to-back Champions League trophies to add to this season's La Liga trophy.
