David De Gea will not be going to Real Madrid

Real Madrid end David De Gea pursuit

Real Madrid will not sign Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea and will choose to keep faith in Keylor Navas for next season.

  • Dutch star has travelled to London for Chelsea medical
  • Chelsea to focus on signing Dutch attacker after Hato

  • The David De Gea transfer saga seems to finally have concluded after Real Madrid decided to end their pursuit of the Spaniard.

According to Spanish newspaper Marca, Florentino Perez and Zinedine Zidane will keep faith in current goalkeeper Keylor Navas instead of breaking the bank for De Gea, a decision that "has been confirmed".

Zinedine Zidane reportedly also told Navas both before and after the Champions League final win over Juventus that he wants the Costa Rican between the sticks for Los Blancos for a long time to come. The players have also urged the club to keep faith in Navas and to not buy a replacement goalkeeper.

Navas had an inconsistent start to the season where his brilliance was sometimes overshadowed by silly unforced errors, causing Real Madrid to drop points in the La Liga title race.

However, the Costa Rican stepped up in the final two months of the season when it mattered. He put in excellent performances in Real Madrid's Champions League charge against Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid, and Juventus in the final.

His confidence and command also shored up the Real Madrid defence in the final few games of La Liga that were key in beating Barcelona for the title.

The news will come as a relief to Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho as De Gea is all but confirmed to remain at the club next season.
