Arsenal have lodged a formal attempt to sign long-term target and Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette, a report from L'Equipe claims.

  • The France international is expected to pursue a fresh club in the summer as he looks to break into Les Bleus' setup on a regular basis.

Antoine Griezmann and Olivier Giroud have both been preferred ahead of him by Didier Deschamps and Lacazette is hoping to move abroad in order to prove his credentials.

According to L'Equipe, the Gunners have made some progress towards Lacazette after having tabled a club-record £44m fee for the marksman.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas is looking for a similar sum from his European counterparts, and a final decision could be left upon Lacazette.

Lacazette initially claimed that Champions League is mandatory for him to move overseas, but he has changed his thoughts in recent weeks after Atletico Madrid failed to overturn their transfer ban.

Arsene Wenger was in the south of France earlier in the month where he had met up with Les Gones officials in order to secure the long-awaited transfer of Lacazette.
