Chelsea to return for Drinkwater

Chelsea plan second bid for Leicester City ace

13 August 2017 - 07:48

Premier League holders Chelsea will revive their interest in Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater in the next few days.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Former Chelsea boss to replace Erik ten Hag at Man Utd?

  • The Blues have already failed with a £15m approach for the England international, and they are prepared to lodge a fresh £25m attempt to test the Foxes' resolve, The Telegraph claims.

Leicester City have been demanding at least £50m to offload Riyad Mahrez in the transfer window, and it is suggested that the Blues may have to increase their bid to at least £40m to sign the 27-year-old.

Chelsea suffered a shocking 3-2 defeat at the hands of Burnley in their Premier League opener after both Gary Cahill and Cesc Fabregas got sent off during the game.

As a result, the Blues find themselves with just one fit central midfielder in N'Golo Kante for the clash against London rivals Tottenham Hotspur next weekend.

Drinkwater missed the Foxes' 4-3 defeat to Arsenal in the league opener due to a thigh injury, but he is expected to return in time for the next round of fixtures.
