Morata reveals United approach

Chelsea star confirms Manchester United approach

16 September 2017 - 12:01

Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata has revealed that Manchester United had made an approach for his services during the summer transfer window. The Red Devils were on the hunt for a top-class striker following the exits of Wayne Rooney and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, although the latter has since rejoined on a one-year contract.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Arsenal handed huge boost ahead of Bournemouth clash

  • In a report covered by The Mail, Morata admitted that a whole host of clubs including Chelsea and Manchester United had expressed an interest in his signature. However, he eventually sealed a reunion with Antonio Conte at Stamford Bridge after United opted to sign Romelu Lukaku from Everton instead.

He said: "I had various offers this summer, not only Chelsea and Manchester United but also from different leagues. It was a good situation for me. The most important and best conversation I had was with Conte, he wanted me to come here."

Both Morata and Lukaku were initially expected to head in the opposite directions, but the two teams will be content with their summer business owing to the success of their strikers. Morata has already bagged three goals and two assists for the Blues whilst Lukaku has fared much better with six goals across all competitions for United.
