Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck has emerged as a surprise transfer option for Everton in the January transfer window. Toffees manager Ronald Koeman was not successful in his quest to sign a new marksman over the summer.
The England international has made a fine start to his season with the Gunners with three goals in five league outings, but he is currently sidelined for a month with a groin problem.
Italian outlet TMW claims that the Toffees will step up their interest in a new striker in the New Year after they failed to find a suitable replacement for Romelu Lukaku during the summer transfer window.
Arsenal's Olivier Giroud and Chelsea's Diego Costa were their prime targets, but both strikers apparently knocked back advances from the Merseyside outfit.
Welbeck is currently contracted to the Gunners until the summer of 2019, and the Gunners are unlikely to cash in on the 26-year-old unless the Toffees make a significant bid.
Meanwhile, a separate report from The Mirror suggests Koeman is confident of luring fellow Gunners teammate Giroud in a £40m deal in January.
