Alvaro Morata out for six weeks with hamstring injury

03 October 2017 - 05:29

Spain international Alvaro Morata could be out for up to six weeks after he suffered a hamstring injury during Chelsea's 1-0 defeat to Manchester City on Saturday.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Former Chelsea boss to replace Erik ten Hag at Man Utd?

  • The 24-year-old was substituted in the 35th minute with the suspicion of a minor hamstring pull which Antonio Conte did not want to take a risk on.

Initially, it was suggested that Morata could return for the Crystal Palace game following the international break, but according to The Mirror, he is likely to be sidelined for an extended period.

Morata has been left out of Spain's World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Israel with a grade two tear which will keep him out for around a month to six weeks.

The marksman has been a huge revelation during his short period in west London scoring six goals in seven Premier League appearances whilst also finding the net in the Champions League triumph over Atletico Madrid.

Antonio Conte was reluctant to play Michy Batshuayi in the absence of Diego Costa last term, and he could potentially play Eden Hazard in the false 9 positionĀ at Selhurst Park on October 14.
