Paris St Germain defender Thomas Meunier has admitted that a deal that would see him leave France to Premier League champions Chelsea fell through. The Belgian turned down a transfer to England at the last minute.
The talented defender, who has started the season in great form, is one of the numerous names that have been linked with a transfer to Chelsea in recent times. However, the Belgium international has confirmed that he opted to stay at PSG in order to fight for a first-team place at the club.
Chelsea instead signed Davide Zappacosta from Torino after a deal for Meunier fell through.Â
"I was waiting for a signing at right-back but not Dani Alves," Meunier told Eleven Sports. "When he arrived I did not know what to think, I wondered if I would still play or stay on the bench.
"I could have left for Chelsea on the last day of the transfer window but I did not want to. I want to become the first choice by the end of the season."
