Preview: Liverpool vs Boro

23 February 2008 - 00:43

Liverpool will be looking to build on an incredible 2-0 victory over Serie A champions Inter Milan with a tough looking visit from 12th placed Middlesbrough. Middlesbrough, on the other hand, have been resurgent of late and are unbeaten since New Year's Day.

  • Overview

A run of five draws, one win and one loss in seven Premier League matches has put Benitez under immense pressure, but a match with Middlesbrough is a perfect way to reverse form.

    Injuries and Suspensions

Afonso Alves could make a start for Boro, whilst Daniel Agger can resume playing after his foot problem for Liverpool. Martin Skrtel is out with an ankle injury and Jamie Carragher is suspended.

Southgate: we can turn our results

"People can see what we are trying to do. The players can see what we are trying to do and the way we are trying to play.

"It is going to continue to take time. We are having a good spell at the moment and we have got to enjoy that.

"But I am very conscious that can turn around with a couple of poor results."

    Squads

Liverpool (from): Reina, Finnan, Arbeloa, Hyypia, Riise, Aurelio, Pennant, Gerrard, Mascherano, Lucas, Babel, Benayoun, Kewell, Crouch, Torres, Kuyt, Alonso, Itandje.

Middlesbrough (from): Schwarzer, Turnbull, Young, Grounds, Pogatetz, Huth, Wheater, Arca, Rochemback, Boateng, O'Neil, Downing, Tuncay, Johnson, Aliadiere, Alves, Mido, Lee.
