West Ham line up move for Newcastle captain

25 March 2018 - 23:02

West Ham United is currently a club in turmoil. Battling relegation and in the midst of a huge fan revolt against the owners, the move to the London Stadium with European ambitions has not at all gone to plan. In an attempt to win back the supporters, Hammers bosses are preparing summer signings, with Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles believed to be one of them.

  • Since joining from Nottingham Forest, Lascelles has gradually established himself as a key part of Rafa Benitez's Newcastle side and he is expected to have a bright international career ahead with England, regardless of whether he makes the squad for this summer's World Cup in Russia.

Despite bringing in names such as Joe Hart, Pablo Zabaleta and Javier Hernandez last summer, West Ham fans have been disappointed with their club's recruitment, which of course has been followed by a very underwhelming Premier League campaign, with their place in the division still insecure.

24-year-old Lascelles is one of the names on the West Ham owners' shopping list, according to The Sun, who will have to tempt the central defender away from St James' Park with a very good offer. Currently, it is believed that the London club is considering making a £15 million bid.

With eight Premier League fixtures remaining, West Ham are sitting precariously above the relegation zone, just two points ahead of Southampton. They take on The Saints, now under the management of Mark Hughes, at the London Stadium on Saturday, in what could turn out to be a decisive matchup in the relegation battle.
