Chelsea head coach Antonio Conte has confirmed that the club will be without the services of young midfielder Ethan Ampadu through injury for the rest of the season.Â
The 17-year-old sustained an ankle fracture during Chelsea's 4-2 win over Real Madrid in the UEFA Youth League, and he has now been sidelined for the campaign, having turned out seven times for the senior team.
Speaking in the lead-up to the Tottenham Hotspur game, Conte confirmed the news, via the club's official website, he said: "Ampadu has an injury and is not available for this season."
Ampadu had initially linked up with Wales for the China Cup, but he had to withdraw within a couple of days after it was known he would not recover in time.
Meanwhile, the Blues are also expected to be without David Luiz, who is expected to be absent for another three weeks with a knee issue. The Brazilian has not featured since the 4-1 humbling at Watford.
Thibaut Courtois and Andreas Christensen also remain doubts for the Sunday fixture but the pair are due to have late fitness tests for the London derby.
