BBC Pundit urges Jose Mourinho to sign Chelsea attacker

16 April 2018 - 10:56

BBC Pundit Garth Crooks believes Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho should try and pursue the services of Chelsea attacker Willian during the summer transfer window.

  • Mauricio Pochettino confirms fresh injury blow for Chelsea star
  • Arsenal want to make four marquee signings this summer

  • The Brazil international has been the Blues' most consistent performer since February, and Crooks feels the winger's arrival would turn United into genuine title contenders next term.

He told BBC Sport: "I think this lad has been Chelsea’s best player this season. Rumours that Manchester United have their sights set on Willian make for interesting reading."

Despite this, there are doubts whether Chelsea would entertain losing another leading performer to Manchester United afte witnessing Nemanja Matic excel during his maiden campaign at Old Trafford.

Crooks added: "The bigger question is whether Chelsea would sell another one of their star players to United. If so, Antonio Conte might as well give Mourinho the contact details of the company which engraves the Premier League trophy while he’s at it."

Willian was more of a substitute during the opening stages of the Premier League game, but injuries to Pedro and Alvaro Morata enhanced his chances of gaining a regular role in 2018.

His best performance undoubtedly came during the 1-1 Champions League draw versus Barcelona in February, where he was unfortunate to have not scored a hat-trick - with a couple of attempts hitting the woodwork.

The attacker is currently contracted to Chelsea until the summer of 2020, and it would come as a huge surprise if the Blues are to consider his sale during the off-season.
