Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has confirmed that he would miss the rest of the season with a back injury, though he should return in time for Germany's World Cup defence in Russia.
The 29-year-old was a surprise exclusion from Arsene Wenger's farewell game at the Emirates but shortly after the match, the German revealed the reason behind his absence.
"It's a pity I missed yesterday's match with my back injury. It'll need some time but I'm sure I'll fully recover in time for the World Cup," he wrote on his official Twitter account.
Ozil has divided opinion among the fans owing to his inconsistent performances this season but his future is nevertheless secure at Arsenal after having penned a fresh three-year deal earlier in January.
He has contributed four goals and a further eight assists in 26 league appearances for the club this term. His next competitive appearance could be for Germany when they face Mexico in the World Cup on June 17.
