Suarez backs Uruguay defence to stop Mbappe and France

03 July 2018 - 16:47

Uruguay striker, Luis Suarez has backed his team's defence to halt France and their in-form attacker Kylian Mbappe when the two sides meet in the quarter-final of the Russia 2018 World Cup.

  • Arsenal to swap Gabriel Jesus for Inter Milan star?
  • Arsenal leading race to sign Belgian midfielder

  • Mbappe scored twice as France ran out 4-3 winners over Argentina in the second round of the competition.

Uruguay, on the other hand, have conceded only one goal so far and have demonstrated that their defence cannot be broken easily.

The performance of Atletico Madrid's Diego Godin has been solid, showing the world why he is one of the best around. Suarez has also praised Mpabbe, likening him to Arsenal and France legend Thierry Henry.

"About Mbappe, everybody knows he's a really good player, he's like (Thierry) Henry a few years ago," Suarez said, Sky Sports reports.

It is no surprise that Suarez has likened Mbappe to Henry because the French attacker has shown that just like the Arsenal legend, he is very quick with the ball and clinical in his finish.

The game between these two sides will definitely be a cracker, and it is just unfortunate that one of the best sides will have to go home on Friday.
