Martinez hails Henry for influence on Lukaku

Martinez hails Henry for influence on Lukaku

05 July 2018 - 11:23

Belgium coach, Roberto Martinez, has hailed former Arsenal striker, Thierry Henry for his role in Lukaku's quality performance at the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Russia.

  • Arsenal to swap Gabriel Jesus for Inter Milan star?
  • Arsenal leading race to sign Belgian midfielder

  • The former France international is currently working with the Belgium national team as one of the assistant coaches to Martinez.

Lukaku currently has four goals in the tournament so far and has been very present around the penalty area for the Belgians.

"I think Thierry deserves huge credit. He has been working really well with Rom," Martinez said to Goal.

Despite not scoring in the 3-2 win over Japan in the second round, the Manchester United striker had a great performance sailing over pass in the 18 yard box to enable Nacer Chadli score the winning goal for the Belgians late in the game.

Lukaku is still in the hunt for the highest goal scorer award as he is two goals behind England's Harry Kane who has six.

As Belgium prepare to face Brazil, Lukaku will definitely be one of the players will discuss in training as they bid to win their fifth World Cup.

Lukaku, supported by the likes of Eden Hazard, Kevin De Bruyne and the entire Belgium squad are more than capable of ending Brazil's World Cup hopes as they have the quality and mental strength to come out of difficulties as demonstrated against Japan.
