Manchester United boss confirms trio will miss Brighton trip

17 August 2018 - 14:48

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed that the trio of Jesse Lingard, Nemanja Matic and Antonio Valencia are set to miss the Premier League outing at Brighton & Hove Albion.

  • Arsenal to swap Gabriel Jesus for Inter Milan star?
  • Arsenal leading race to sign Belgian midfielder

  • Valencia and Matic have been sidelined with injuries picked up during pre-season and the World Cup respectively whilst Lingard has yet to regain his fitness after returning from an extended break following the World Cup.

In a report covered on United's website, Mourinho confirmed that the trio have returned to first-team training but none of them are likely to feature in the trip to the South Coast, he said: "Lingard, Matic and Valencia are training with the team since yesterday. They are fully fit, but not yet ready to play or even be selected I think."

Manchester United begun their league campaign with a 2-1 triumph over Leicester City but their attacking performance was far from impressive as they witnessed some poor finishing.

Romelu Lukaku, in particular, was at fault for missing a clear-cut chance late in the Foxes game but the Belgian is expected to start from the off against Chris Hughton's side.
