Manchester United boss confirms trio will miss Brighton trip

Mourinho confirms first-team trio could miss Brighton game

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed that the trio of Jesse Lingard, Nemanja Matic and Antonio Valencia are set to miss the Premier League outing at Brighton & Hove Albion.

Valencia and Matic have been sidelined with injuries picked up during pre-season and the World Cup respectively whilst Lingard has yet to regain his fitness after returning from an extended break following the World Cup.

In a report covered on United's website, Mourinho confirmed that the trio have returned to first-team training but none of them are likely to feature in the trip to the South Coast, he said: "Lingard, Matic and Valencia are training with the team since yesterday. They are fully fit, but not yet ready to play or even be selected I think."

Manchester United begun their league campaign with a 2-1 triumph over Leicester City but their attacking performance was far from impressive as they witnessed some poor finishing.

Romelu Lukaku, in particular, was at fault for missing a clear-cut chance late in the Foxes game but the Belgian is expected to start from the off against Chris Hughton's side.
