Drinkwater to leave Chelsea for West Ham move?

West Ham to make bid for Danny Drinkwater

West Ham are weighing up a transfer move for Chelsea's unhappy midfielder Danny Drinkwater. The former Leicester City player has slipped down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge and is now rumoured to be ready to leave in search of regular first-team football.

  • With Drinkwater having lost his place in the England squad to club team-mate Ross Barkley, the Premier League winning former Leicester City midfielder is looking at January transfer window alternatives.

West Ham are looking to shore up their midfield in January and Drinkwater could offer a cut-price option for the Hammers. It is understood that Chelsea could sell the player for a fee of around £8.75 million in order to release the player from his contract.

With the emergence of Mateo Kovacic and Barkley this year, Drinkwater's playing options will be significantly limited particularly as Blues player Fabregas is still ahead of Drinkwater in manager Maurizio Sarri's playing order.

Drinkwater is also a target for French side Monaco, who recently appointed Thierry Henry as new manager, but only on a loan deal.
