Atletico Madrid are reportedly considering the option of terminating Alvaro Morata's loan contract ahead of the summer transfer window.

  • The Spaniard joined Atleti from Chelsea on an 18-month loan move in January with the option to secure his services on a permanent basis.

However, the striker has not flourished in Madrid with just six goals from 17 appearances and AS claims that the club are aiming to cut their losses at the end of the season.

According to the Spanish publication, Atleti need to pay around £15m to extend the striker's loan deal for the 2019/2020 season, but they are likely to reject the option of doing so.

Atleti are currently fearful that they will lose the services of Antoine Griezmann to Barcelona and they are keen on pursuing a more prolific marksman to accompany Diego Costa up front next term.

Chelsea are presently unable to make any signings due to their two-window transfer ban but they could benefit from Morata, Tammy Abraham and Michy Batshuayi returning from their loan spells.
