Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Xherdan Shaqiri could be out for a while as he has yet to recover from the calf tear sustained on international duty with Switzerland.
The attacker suffered the damage during the third-place play-off against England in the Nations League last month and it appears that he could now miss the large part of pre-season.
Speaking to the club's official website, Klopp confirmed that Shaqiri would return to first-team duty in the near future and the club will have to wait for his recovery from the calf problem.
"Shaq is still injured from the national team and it will take a while until he is in again. He has a tear in his calf, so he will not be involved for a while," he said.
Liverpool begin their pre-season friendlies with a game against Tranmere Rovers and a number of big-name players from the first-team squad are set to be absent.
Apart from Shaqiri, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah will be absent for most of the month owing to their international exploits. Mane is still with Senegal at the African Cup of Nations.
