Cole wants Chilwell at Chelsea

Ashley Cole recommends Chelsea to sign Premier League left-back

13 December 2019 - 20:13

Chelsea legend Ashley Cole has recommended his former club to acquire the services of Ben Chilwell from fellow Premier League side Leicester City.

  • Predicted Man Utd line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Sheffield United, Amad starts
  • Predicted Arsenal line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Chelsea, Jorginho starts

  • The Blues are in the mark for a new left-sided defender with the likes of Marcos Alonso and Emerson struggling for consistency while Cesar Azpilicueta has likewise been unimpressive in a makeshift role.

As a result, Chilwell has been earmarked as the prime transfer target for the January transfer window and Cole believes that the Blues should make an approach for the Foxes star in the New Year.

"I would love to see him at Chelsea," Cole told talkSPORT. "He's doing really, really well at Leicester. He's enjoying the way Brendan [Rodgers] plays and his system; he's got that licence to attack."

Leicester boss Rodgers has recently stated that the club are unlikely to offload any of their first-team stars next month and Cole believes the Blues may struggle to find the breakthrough at the midway stage of the season.

"I think he's quality and I've heard he's a Chelsea fan, too, so I would like to see him here. Whether he would want to leave, or if Leicester would want to sell him, that's something the clubs would have to talk about," he added.

Chilwell has featured in 13 league games for the Foxes this term, contributing one goal and three assists. He has also been a regular with England and recently bagged three assists against Montenegro.
