Arsenal board make transfer decision for January

Arteta won't be backed with transfer funds

Arsenal board make transfer decision for January

04 January 2020 - 18:20

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is unlikely to be backed with transfer funds for January after the club's spending spree over the summer.

  • Chelsea quoted price to sign Igor Thiago
  • Chelsea make Joao Pedro transfer decision
  • The Gunners spent £137m on six new players during the summer transfer window and that involved the club-record signing of Nicolas Pepe.

After the recent win over Manchester United, Arteta hinted that the club could be after a new defender to replace the injured Calum Chambers, but it appears that the board are unlikely to provide him with funds.

According to Sky Sports, the club's hierarchy don't have any plans to spend additional fees on new purchases and Arteta may have to recoup funds from player sales.

The Spaniard of course has the option of loaning a player from elsewhere but so far, it is unclear whether any of the European sides are willing to negotiate such kind of a deal.

Atletico Madrid's Thomas Lemar and Juventus' Daniele Rugani have recently been mentioned as possible targets for Arteta during the current transfer window.
