Chelsea have reportedly made a late attempt to sign Victor Osimhen from Lille as they seek to reinforce the centre-forward department before the end of the month.

  • The west London side have made no signings during the course of the January transfer window and they have come to the point where the deadline is approaching.

According to L'Equipe, the Blues have lodged a proposal to sign Lille's Osimhen, who has impressed in Ligue 1 this season with 10 goals and three assists from 20 appearances.

However, their prospects of signing the Nigeria international are slim, considering the French outfit are reluctant to part ways with their star striker at such a late notice.

The Blues have been working with Tammy Abraham, Michy Batshuayi and Olivier Giroud as the striking options this season but the latter is expected to leave the club by tomorrow's transfer deadline.

Giroud is keen on regular first-team football during the backend of the season to enhance his selection prospects with France for Euro 2020. Tottenham Hotspur have emerged as the top candidates to sign him.
